The Ranch
Ashland Hills Ranch
Ashland Hills Ranch is
located in the south branch of the Rogue
River Valley in beautiful Southern Oregon
just 15 miles from the California border. The
ranch fans up the slopes directly across
the valley from the city of Ashland, home
to the famous Oregon
Shakespeare Festival and Southern
Oregon University. Whereas the
city of Ashland is snuggled amongst the
ponderosa pines on the foothills of Mount
Ashland to the south, Ashland Hills Ranch
stretches across the grassy inclines to
the north below Grizzly Peak. Ashland
Hills and Grizzly Peak comprise a splendid
view for the citizens of Ashland, and in
turn the city of Ashland and the Siskiyou
Mountain Range present a grand view from
the ranch. A few white oaks and manzanita
dot the ravines and north slopes of the
ranch, blending forcefully with the grass
and brush on the hills. The hills
are green in the winter and spring, and
golden brown in the summer and fall. There
is no shortage of blackberry vines and
Oregon wild plum.
Southern Oregon
Southern Oregon is renowned
for its natural splendor and recreational
activities, including salmon fishing in
the local streams and rivers, rafting or
jet boating in the white water of the scenic Rogue
River, skiing on the slopes of the
Cascade and Siskiyou Mountain Ranges, exploring
the celebrated Oregon
Caves, discovering the haunting beauty
of Crater
Lake National Park, hiking the Pacific
Crest Trail, or attending the world-renowned
Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Elderhostel is
especially active at Southern Oregon University
during the summer months.
